AROUND THE WEB:

— Darrelle Revis doesn’t play for the Patriots anymore, which means he’s allowed to be more forthcoming about his groin strain and his availability for the Jets’ next game.

“It’s not getting any worse, it’s getting better,” the cornerback said after limited participation in Thursday’s practice — after taking Wednesday off to rest. “Leading up to these next couple days, we’ll see how it pans out and how it goes with practice. And we’ll see what happens Sunday.”

As for the possibility he plays in Sunday’s game against the Eagles, Revis said, “That’s a game-time decision of what Coach [Todd Bowles] wants to do and what the training staff wants to do.”

Bowles said he’s encouraged by the fact that Revis has progressed since suffering the injury in Monday night’s win over the Colts.

“He did some things in practice,” Bowles said, “and he’ll get better day by day.”

In Monday’s game, Revis had an interception and two fumble recoveries. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Wide receiver Erick Decker and running back Chris Ivory also are ailing for the Jets, who are off to a 2-0 start. Decker sprained his left knee Sunday and has not practiced since. Ivory, who strained his groin last week, has a quadriceps injury that has kept him out of practice all week.

— Metta World Peace is back with the Lakers, agreeing to a one-year deal after working out at the team’s training complex this summer.

The team is looking for the 35-year-old defensive specialist to provide a leadership role and toughen up the younger players.

“I think he’d be great in the locker room with young players,” general manager Mitch Kupchak said. “But we have to be careful not to use a roster spot too early because we have a lot of young kids.”

Out of the NBA since being waived by the Knicks in February 2014 — leading to stints in China and Italy — the former Ron Artest has been working out with Lakers 2014 first-round draft pick Julius Randle of late. Randle missed last season after breaking his leg in Los Angeles’ opening game.

“It’s great to have him go against Julius,” Kupchak said. “To watch those two guys practice, it’s almost comical. I’m not sure who gets the better of it. I would be surprised if either player admitted to anybody after practice that they hurt more than they did before practice. I could see Julius going home and getting in a tub, but I could see Metta getting in a tub, too, but you wouldn’t know it because they wouldn’t tell you. They’re both mega-competitors.”

— One day after implying someone might have tampered with evidence in the Patrick Kane case, the lawyer for the woman who has accused the Blackhawks star of rape stepped down Thursday and said he is no longer comfortable representing the woman.

Thomas Eoannou said the accuser’s mother told her the evidence bag that contained the rape kit used by the woman the night of the alleged encounter mysteriously appeared in her doorway this week.

Eoannou now says he questions the mother’s version, although he doesn’t believe it affects the case overall.

“I can only say that I don’t know what’s true and what’s not true,” Eoannou said in a press conference from his downtown Buffalo law office. “I received the story line from the mother. And it’s my position that I’m not comfortable with that version of the events.”

The accuser’s mother refused interview requests but released a statement.

“While we are disappointed that Mr. Eoannou has withdrawn from his role providing advice and counsel in the criminal investigation of Patrick Kane, we have every intention of pursuing this case to a just conclusion,” the statement said. “It must be emphasized that there exists no evidence or allegation that the accuser herself had any knowledge of the evidence bag until it was brought to Mr. Eoannou’s office.”

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA (answer below): On Sept. 25, 1965, the legendary Satchel Paige pitched three shutout innings for the Kansas City Athletics against the Red Sox. The 59-year-old former Negro Leagues star, who was making his first major league appearance since 1953, allowed only one hit — a first-inning double to which Sox player?

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Nobody five weeks ago was proud of where we were. We aren’t today. It’s hard to see one of your good friends that poured his soul into this job, what happened. When we sign up for this line of work, we realize what the ramifications can be when the product on the field isn’t what it needs to be.” New Red Sox general manager Mike Hazen, on replacing his friend Ben Cherington

STAT OF THE DAY: 9 — Seasons with at least 100 RBIs for David Ortiz — who picked up two to give him 101 during Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Rays — tying him with Ted Williams for most in Red Sox history

‘NET RESULTS (mobile users, check the website to see the videos): With runners at the corners and one out in the ninth inning of a tie game, Alexi Amarista lifts a fly ball to deep left-center field to give the Padres a walkoff win over the Giants.

A man holding a baby catches on foul ball and almost snares another at the Mets-Reds game in Cincinnati.

From a high school football game in Texas, a PAT kick by Midland Lee deflects off the referee’s head and goes through the uprights.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Carl Yastrzemski

SOOTHING SOUNDS: Will Smith was born on this day in 1968.
